Last week, we caught up with Organizational Development Specialist, V. Moon to discuss establishing equitable workspaces for women in the workplace, taking down structural hierarchies, and creating a better system of accountability for those in leadership positions. We seriously could not have asked for a better first guest!!! V is charming, charismatic, a total fucking spit-fire, and the spark of joy that everyone deserves in their lives. One thing that totally stuck out during her interview was V's childhood dream of being a firework during the Disneyland firework show. Yes, you read that correctly, she wanted to be a firework...well, specifically the person that rode the firework. How pure is that?

However, she did have a point to that analogy: finding your dream job.

More often than not many of us (especially millennials) tend to bend over backwards for degrees, accolades, and the required "40-years of work experience" in order to land some mediocre job that at the end of the day feels totally empty. But what if it didn't have to be like this? V points out in her interview that has an organizational development specialist, her goal is help organizations reflect on their hiring practices, policies, and overall workplace environment. Here, her goal is help create a space that provides an equitable platform that allows everyone a seat at the table, regardless of position, thus allowing for a deeper sense of agency (Kyle's favorite teacher word), individual value, and greater respect for each team member. Kind of like the X-Men....

During the episode, we discussed the concept of "Step Forward, Step Back" teamwork in which members of the given group are allowed to shine in their area of expertise while the others support in whichever way possible. Then when it's time for another member to step up to the plate, the other steps down. Kyle and I ended up throwing in the X-Men example in which everyone used their own individual mutant powers for the greater good of the team as whole. Obviously, we all can't be Storm or Wolverine...or my personal favorite, Jubilee, but there'll still come a time when we can use our unique abilities to kick some Sentinel ass.

So with that, don't forget to give V's episode, Watch Doges: Assemble, a listen and get out there and find your spark...or weather-controlling powers...or laser beam eyes...or become a lab-engineered mutant with super strength, self-healing ability, and freaking adamantium claws.
